Light Goose Population Is Out of Control
Ranger

At more than 5 million birds, the disastrous snow goose population continues to spiral out of control. But for hunters who want some inexpensive, epic wing shooting—it's on! Mark a spring snow goose hunt on your calendar for next year, and follow these tips for success:

Bring A UTV
Spring snow goose season means serious mud ... and possibly some remnant snow. A hard-core UTV is priceless for hauling gear, guys, birds and cases of goose-crushing ammo.

Setup Is Crucial
Employ a big spread of decoys that are easy to set up. (Snow geese feel more comfortable landing with large numbers of companions on the ground.) If permitted in your area, use a high-quality electronic caller. (It's nearly impossible for hunters to "manually" call in massive flocks of snows.) Use layout blinds. (You need to remain entirely hidden from the 1,000s of eyes in the sky.)

Ammo Is Key
Don't waste time with low-end ammo; get the good stuff! Snows are notorious for hanging up at long ranges, so you need to be able to drop 'em dead up high.
